The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress
NDC Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia has indicated that the Constitutional Instrument [CI]
before the Committee of Parliament must not be affirmed since many citizens
will be affected and may bring a mayhem.
Speaking to Kwesi Aboagye on Neat FM and monitored by
12NEWS, Mr. Nketia said “We are in a democratic dispensation and they [Electoral
Commission] cannot just implement policies without addressing the concern of
other political parties and stakeholders. We cannot be intimidated by their
prowess and powers and we will fight as we fought for our independence.
The Ghana Card cannot
be the only means of registration or sole evidence whereby there is a credible
biometric captured data such as birth certificate and anyone with the current
Voter ID Cards can guarantee”.
The NDC General Secretary lamented that the nation is in
crises and that the EC should not put more burden stating that
“The Constitutional
Instrument [CI] to eliminate the guarantor system from the registration by the
Electoral Commission is presented to a Committee of Parliament and the
Committee have identified some errors which they told the EC to rectify and
come back”
One can say that, the NPP is in charge of the affairs of the
EC in terms of what to do and when he added.
“The New Patriotic Party opposed the decision of the
Committee, demanding that the process is due and genuine and must be executed
by the EC”
I know they blame me for in sighting our members not to
register for the Ghana Card and I will not deny it
“I did tell our members not to participate because the issue
was in court and it was not appropriate to get involved in the process then.
After some period of the adjournment of Court Proceedings the Members of
Parliament who took the issue to court decided to let go and a Press Conference
was held to now allow NDC members to participate in the Ghana Card registration
that they do not refer”.
When asked of his recent declaration of not competing for
the General secretary position, the seventeen years serving General Mosquito
said
“I will not seek re-election as general secretary but will
go for a higher position after seventeen years of serving the party.
The party constitution demands election of executives after
every four years and so those saying certain positions are for certain
candidates are wrong”.
All positions are contested for and in all my elections I
was contested and no one has gone unopposed he stressed.
“In three months’ time I will be done with my term of office
and that position can be contested by qualified candidates”
