Do Not Intimidate Heads of Senior High Schools


The Minority leader of parliament and MP for Tamale South has cautioned the government to allow head teachers of Senior High Schools to share their opinions on matters concerning the Free Senior High School Program. Haruna Iddrisu said this at the third Speech and Prize giving day of Tamale Girls Senior High School in Tamale under the theme Promoting National Development, the role of the girl child. According to the Member of Parliament, government should not intimidate head teachers when they express their views especially when it concerns issues of this laudable policy. Haruna Iddrisu stressed on the need to have sustainable fund policy to fund the Free Senior High School Program and not rely on the Petroleum Management Bill. The Headmistress of Tamale Senior High pleaded to the stakeholders, MP for Tamale South and the regional minister to come to their aid in terms of water supply. Hajia Mariama Mohammed said much efforts have been done by the chiefs and beneficiaries but infrastructure and furniture is dependent on internally generated funds. The vice chancellor of University for Development Studies who was the Guest speaker of the occasion emphasized the need to abolish some cultural believes which is a stumbling block between them and the self-development to ascertain development in the country. Professor Saidu Al-Hassan in a speech said parents have equal duties as teachers to ensure that the girls child achieves her dreams so to bring development to the country. Professor Al-Hassan urged the government to place more importance to the girl child in policy making decisions. The Northern Regional minister Salifu Saeed in his speech encouraged the minority to come on board to make the Free Senior High School Program a sustainable one to achieve the target set by the Sustainable Development Goals. Salifu Saeed also urged the students to live a good life while on campus so to have a good record for keeping and referencing when the need arises. Students and teachers were awarded for their contribution to the school’s development. The brought together Chiefs of various traditional areas and the Northern Regional Director of Education.
