Minority Hails Government
The Minority Chief Whip of Parliament Ahmed Ibrahim has
exalted the government for reconsidering its position on the Governing Council
of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology KNUST concerning recent
anarchism on the university’s campus.
Mr Ahmed Ibrahim in an interview with OK FM said, “the
government has done well by asking for the Chancellor to form a Governing
Council by Friday 2nd November appreciating the laws that bounds
Universities in the country.”
“We have laws governing our Universities and we in the
minority maintain the position that, the laws be applied in resolving the
recent clash on KNUST campus that resulted injuries and destroyed properties
worth thousands of Ghana cedis”, he said
The Minority is in parliament to check works of ruling
government to guarantee value for money and proper management of state
resources in the interest of all citizens” he added
The Member of Parliament for Banda Constituency in the Brong
Ahafo Region urged the government to set its priorities straight since there is
increasing pressure from Civil Society Organizations, NGOs and pressure groups all
asking for the Right To Information Bill to be passed.
He said this when speaking on the passing of the Right To
Information Bill which is before parliament.
“The government had the Right To Information Bill with other
bills but, went to pass the other bills” he added.
Whenever we are working on the Right To Information Bill,
the government will bring other bills to be considered and this slows the
process of passing the Right To Information Bill which is one major role to
fighting corruption in the country.
